Undergraduate Programs - BA in Economics

The Weatherhead BA in Economics is a 120-credit-hour, structured program that will teach you to analyze problems of resource allocation and decision-making, and to understand the influence of these factors on economies and societies. Our program ranks #5 in the nation for the study of microeconomics and #7 for macroeconomics in Businessweek's 2012 survey of undergraduate programs.

General Degree Requirements

Students are required to complete the Arts and Sciences General Education requirements.

Major Requirements

Required: 33 Hours

1. Principles:
   • Principles of Microeconomics
   • Principles of Macroeconomics
2. Intermediate Theory:
   • Intermediate Macro Theory
   • Intermediate Micro Theory or
     Intermediate Micro: Math-Based
3. Econometrics:
   • Statistics (STAT207 or OPRE207)
   • Econometrics (Ideally taken by the junior year to enrich understanding of upper-level elective courses and to enable engagement in more sophisticated economic analysis)

Electives: 15 Hours / 5 Courses

A minimum of five additional courses in Economics totaling at least 15 credit hours at the 200-level or 300-level. Honors Thesis I will not count toward fulfilling this requirement.

SAGES Senior Capstone Experience

The Economics major does not require a capstone as part of the major. However, students need to complete a capstone as part of their Sages requirement. The Economics Department offers the following courses for the Capstone:
