Gretchen R. Haggerty Receives 2007 Braden Award
The Department of Accountancy of the Weatherhead School of Management presented Gretchen R. Haggerty with the 2007 Braden Award. Following her presentation, Mrs. Haggerty received the award in a ceremony on Friday, November 30, 2007 for her outstanding contributions to the development of accounting practice and thought.
Mrs. Haggerty serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for United States Steel Corporation. She earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Case Western Reserve University and a law degree from Duquesne University. She joined United States Steel Corporation as a management trainee in the tax division in 1976. She continued her career rise over the next 27 years when, in 2003, she was promoted to executive vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer. Additionally, Mrs. Haggerty is chairman of the United States Steel and Carnegie Pension Fund and is a member of the Investment Committee of the fund. She is also a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association and serves on the boards of Highmark Inc. and the United Way of Allegheny County.
The Braden Award is named in honor of Professor Andrew Dale Braden, who served as an accountancy faculty member at the University from 1945 to 1986. It is awarded to outstanding members and leaders of the professional accounting practice community to recognize distinctive contributions by members of the professional practice community to the knowledge and advancement of the discipline of accountancy. The 2007 presentation of the Braden Award was the 25th award given by the Department of Accountancy.
