ACCOUNTANCY

 

  The mission of the Department of Accountancy is to provide a superior learning environment for students to achieve their academic and professional potential, to pursue discovery through innovative, relevant research of enduring consequence, and to participate in service activities enhancing our school, our university, and our local and global communities.

We provide a learner-centered environment which fosters an appreciation of the full potential of the roles of accountancy in a world characterized by continuous change. We strive to attract the best students, to whom we offer curricula characterized by continuous improvement and innovation. In keeping with our professional tradition, we have a special duty to distinguish our students in their professionalism, leadership, expertise, and commitment to lifelong learning. Our scholarly work fosters an international appreciation of Case Western Reserve University as a center for excellence, thus building the reputation of the students and alumni who work with us.

Discovery Objectives

The discovery objectives of the Department of Accountancy incorporate scholarly activities in their broadest form to make enduring contributions to the advancement of the profession. Our department is unique in its encouragement of and respect for different streams of thought. Our tolerance and respect for one another's interests builds a supportive environment for talented scholars. The department values many forms of scholarship, research methods, and scholarly output, including:
  • refereed journal articles
  • monographs, texts and professional books
  • commissioned projects
  • other activities that are recognized by the accountancy community for making a significant contribution to practice and education

Service Objectives

The service objectives of the department include activities contributing to the mission of the department, the school, and the university, as well as to academia, the international profession of accountancy, and the broader community.
